Shepherd Hooks
Freestanding poles that eat up yard space, tip over in wind, and clutter your porch instead of decorating it.
How It Started
Inventor & Founder, What D Hook
"My wife asked me to hang a flower basket. I looked at the drill, looked at our brand-new post, and thought — there has to be a better way. So I built one."
Like many great ideas, What D Hook was born from a simple frustration. Every option on the market — shepherd hooks that clutter the yard, clamp hooks that slip and scratch, drilled eye hooks that permanently damage your home — forced homeowners to choose between convenience and protecting their property.
We refused to accept that trade-off. After years of prototyping, testing, and refining, the first What D Hook was installed here in New Jersey. It held a heavy hanging basket through wind, rain, and winter. No tools. No damage. No problem.
The Problem We Solved
Freestanding poles that eat up yard space, tip over in wind, and clutter your porch instead of decorating it.
Unstable grip that slips, scratches your post, and rarely fits anything but a narrow railing — if you're lucky.
Permanent holes in your wood or vinyl. Say goodbye to your warranty and hello to water damage and regret.

Innovation
What D Hook is fully patented — you won't find anything else like it on the market. Our proprietary clamping mechanism uses precision-engineered geometry to grip your post securely. Each hook is manufactured right here in the USA from weather-resistant, powder-coated steel that's rated for decades of outdoor use.
Every hook includes an adjustable shim. It's a small piece with an important job: it fine-tunes the grip so your hook stays put regardless of small post variations. Because we know not every porch post is exactly the size it says on the label. Available in hook sizes from 1½" to 6" — and if your measurement falls between sizes, the shim has you covered.
